Position Information
The Rivers Secondary College, proudly stands on the land of the Widjabul Wia-bul people of the Bundjalung Nation. The Rivers Secondary College is a multi-campus college consisting of the Kadina High Campus, Lismore High Campus and the Richmand River High Campus. All of our campuses are modelled on a comprehensive 7 to 12 high school. Together, we are the heart of secondary education in Lismore and pride ourselves on creating excellence, equity and engagement for all students. Our current enrolment is 1286 students, 268 who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The college has both mainstream and support classes. Teaching staff and non teaching staff from across the college, work together to offer a wide range of courses, which meet the needs of students to successfully manage the complexity and diversity of our world. The college has a strong focus on rigorous professional learning which targets the improvement of student learning outcomes. We are a college committed to acknowledging, celebrating and promoting our strong Aboriginal histories and cultures to enrich the lives of all students, creating future citizens who are focused on building a brighter future. The role of the Deputy Principal Secondary within the college is one of instructional leadership across the three campuses of the college. The successful applicant will collaborate with the senior college executive leadership group and work closely with the Executive Principal to create a positive culture of high expectations, ensuring effective, evidence-informed teaching practices that enable student improvement, achievement and wellbeing to thrive. As an integral part of the college executive team, the Deputy Principal’s responsibilities vary between campuses and reflect their unique contexts. The role is characterised by the need to adapt to specific circumstances of the college, campuses and community.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria,
Capacity to lead within the complexities of a multi-campus college and demonstrated skills in mentoring and leading executive teams to design quality inclusive teaching and learning programs.
Demonstrated capacity to foster and build positive partnerships to develop the secondary college, along with the ability to promote public education.
Awareness of the complexity of college operations and a capacity to lead, develop, implement and manage whole school operational initiatives, organisational structures and management processes.
Proven written and communication, interpersonal and liaison skills with highly developed leadership, people and financial skills and experience in managing conflicting timeframes, priorities and complex issues.
A demonstrated ability to build strong relational trust that enables a culture of professional growth and positive wellbeing to flourish.
A demonstrated ability to lead inclusive practices that recognise the richness and diversity of the wider school community including local Aboriginal cultures.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

This is an Above Centrally Identified permanent teacher position established through school funds. The successful candidate’s continued appointment to this position will be subject to the continuity of this funding, the ongoing requirement for the role and the educational needs of the school. Should the funding or the requirement for the position cease, the teacher will receive nominated transfer status; please refer to the Staffing Procedure for the Teaching Service in NSW Public Schools for additional information.
