About Us

Somerville House is a day and boarding school for girls established in 1899, providing exceptional education for students from Prep through to Year 12, with co-education Pre-Prep offering. Somerville House students have the opportunity to participate in an extensive academic, sporting and cultural program, while receiving high standards in personal care and individual attention within the School community.

Somerville House is a member of the Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association (PMSA). The PMSA is a mission of the Presbyterian and Uniting Churches.

As of September 2024, the School has 1,441 students from Prep to Year 12, with 94 boarders and 88 students in our Early Learning Centre.  The School has entered the candidacy phase for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and Primary Years Program, which the Deputy Principal role will be instrumental in ensuring the overall successful implementation.

The Role

The Deputy Principal will provide support for all aspects of the Principal’s role, through oversight of Pre-Prep to Year 12. It is the role of the Deputy Principal to provide effective leadership in all aspects of the School and to be a support to the Principal, specifically through oversight of the Academic Program in Years 7 - 12, creating a learning culture with staff and students of international mindedness in line with the International Baccalaureate philosophy.

The Deputy Principal will provide effective daily management of the School in conjunction with the members of the Senior Leadership and Academic Leadership Team(s) encompassing Academic, Co-Curricular, Wellbeing and Boarding.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A higher degree in management and / or education, preferably a Masters’ Degree 
  • Qld College of Teachers’ Registration (or eligibility for registration).
  • Significant experience (5 or more years) in a senior leadership role in a school. 
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and implement change.
  • Experience in a Boarding School environment is desirable, but not essential.
  • Experience in the International Baccalaureate program is desirable, but not essential.

This is a 5-year fixed-term contract commencing 1 January 2025 or as negotiated with the preferred candidate.
