Who We Are:
The Western Cape College is a unique state school with two campuses located in Mapoon (P-6), and Weipa (P-12), as well as a secondary residential facility also located in Weipa. Each Campus is set in its own amazing cultural, social and geographical environment, spread over a vast area of the Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland.
Our boarding campus is a home away from home for Indigenous Students from Cape York and the Torres Strait. The team at the Residential Campus have strong links to the indigenous cultures of the Cape and the Torres Strait as well as a wealth of experience working with youth.
As the largest P-12 school in the Cape, we have an important role to play in supporting and continuing to lead innovative practices with Indigenous and Remote Education. Our vision is that all young people are well prepared for their futures with skills to progress purposefully on their chosen pathway, and we firmly believe in a strong foundation to learning being the stepping stone to future successes.

Your Role:
The Cook manages kitchen operations, follows approved menus, and supports students.
You will maintain hygiene standards, undertake and supervise food preparation, and ensure the smooth running of the kitchen and dining hall, reporting to the Chief Cook.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare and provide a range of meals ensuring meals are varied, nutritious, and meet the needs of students.
- Overseeing the serving of meals, ensuring appropriate cooking and food preparation techniques are followed, and managing washing up and disposal of food scraps.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment, utensils and the handling of food and preparation of meals is performed in a hygienic and safe manner.
- Ensure food storage is appropriate, hygienic and in accordance with the standards outlined by health controlling authorities within relevant legislation and regulations.

The Perfect Fit:
- The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a Cook role, preferably with pastry or baking experience.
- Good communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels is essential, as is personal innovation and passion for quality food.
- Experience working in boarding houses or an equivalent environment is preferred but not essential.
