Complex Needs Support Assistant

Veritas Education are currently working with specialist SEN schools who are looking to recruit Complex Needs Support Assistants to support children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), complex medical needs and additional support requirements.

We are looking for caring, reliable and dedicated individuals who have previous experience in care or complex needs settings and are passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of young people.

The Role

As a Complex Needs Support Assistant, you will provide essential learning and personal care support to pupils throughout the school day. You will work across different classrooms and school environments, supporting learners during lessons, mealtimes, playground activities, physiotherapy sessions and other daily activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing individualised support to pupils with PMLD and complex physical, medical and learning needs.

  • Supporting teaching and learning activities to encourage engagement, communication and independence.

  • Assisting with personal care, including toileting and changing, while maintaining dignity and respect.

  • Supporting pupils during physiotherapy sessions and working alongside nursing, medical and specialist staff.

  • Following individual care plans, safeguarding procedures and health and safety guidance.

  • Adapting to the needs of different pupils across a range of age groups and classroom settings.

    • Key Requirements

  • Previous experience in care, complex needs or a specialist SEN setting.

  • Experience supporting children or young people with complex needs, ideally including PMLD.

  • Confidence and willingness to provide personal care for pupils aged 5-19.

  • Moving and Handling training with valid certification highly desirable.

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

  • A caring, patient and nurturing approach.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
