About this job

About the Department:

The Department of Education is dedicated to building an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the community and schools we support by treating everyone with respect and dignity. This starts with recruitment and selection. The methods of assessing suitability in the recruitment process may vary. This includes making reasonable adjustments to support applicants at all stages of the process and employee lifecycle.

About the Role:

As the Communications and Engagement Support Officer you will have responsibility for (but not limited to) the following:

  • Participate in, and undertake designated project, organisational change and business improvement activities across a broad range of infrastructure, planning and asset management strategies to deliver tailored infrastructure solutions for the department.
  • Actively participate in teams and projects to undertake analysis, design, review and implementation of infrastructure, planning and asset management related business activities, systems, policies, projects and programs.
  • Assist in the preparation of project information, reports, submissions, briefing materials, correspondence and division specific support documents and templates.
  • Provide operational information and advice on infrastructure, planning and asset management issues, projects and programs to colleagues, internal and external clients and stakeholders.

Please view the Role Description for a full list of responsibilities.

About the Team:

We are a small, creative comms and engagement team looking for an officer to join us in Brisbane to tell the story about how, through building, expanding and improving schools for the growing Queensland population, we are helping to deliver quality education to kids around the state.

About You:

We don't need you to have communications or engagement experience - we're happy to teach someone who is keen to learn - but you do need a high level of energy, great organisation skills, enjoy speaking to people, be detail driven and be keen to work collaboratively. Our ideal applicant doesn't need to know everything, but will be keen to jump in and work while expanding their skills.

Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.

To apply please attach the following:

  • A brief resume including contact details for two referees (one of whom should be your current supervisor).
  • A maximum two-page cover letter including responses to the following questions:
    1. How do you build relationships with internal stakeholders and others?
    2. When you're looking at a blank page and don't know where to start your communication, what do you do?
    3. If you can't meet a deadline, what do you do?

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.

Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.

Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.

When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.

Salary rate shown is reflective of full-time (1.0 FTE).
