Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Education Limited (CECG), plays an integral role in education in the ACT and NSW, operating 56 Catholic Systemic Schools and nine Early Learning Centres.
About Casual Teaching
Casual Teachers play an important role in supporting students when their teacher is unavailable, or a school requires additional staffing. Casual Teachers support a learning environment that stimulates learning, promotes excellence and accepts and acknowledges the needs of students to be both challenged and supported.
Once casual employees are approved to work nominate their schools of preference and availability through our simple-to-use Casual Relief System (CRS). Casual employees may be called upon, on an as-needed basis by Catholic Schools within the Archdiocese of Canberra Goulburn. Casual work can vary from between three hours to several weeks at a single school, college, or early learning centre.

Who can apply?
- Qualified teachers.
- Pre-service teachers who are in the final semester of their accredited Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program and have completed all required professional experience placements.
Selection Criteria
- Thorough knowledge of the Australian Curriculum with the ability to organise, select and design content for effective teaching and learning.
- Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage positively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Capacity to be a proactive member of a professional learning community complying with the legal, administrative, and professional requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of classroom practices and organisational skills that create supportive and safe environments for all students, including meeting a variety of learning needs.
- Comprehensive understanding of assessment and reporting strategies.
Permit to Teach (TQI)
Upon recommendation for approval as a Casual Teacher, CECG will request a Permit to Teach with the Teacher Quality Institute for Pre-service Teachers. An application for a PTT can only be made once a request has been received from an employer - Pre-service teachers cannot apply directly to TQI.

Other Eligibility Criteria
- You must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident or be in Australia on a visa with work rights to be eligible to apply for this position.
- Appointment is subject to satisfactory employment screening for child-related employment in accordance with CECG policy.
