Camooweal State School was established in 1893 and is located on the Barkly Highway, approximately 13 km east of the Northern Territory border.

Our school has two multi-age classes, with our enrolment currently ranging between 30 and 40 students from prep to year 7. 95% of our students are Indigenous.

Our school works towards establishing and maintaining positive connections within the local and wider community. We have a Breakfast Club that runs every day of the school week and offer extra curricula activities in the areas of sport and arts. 

About the Role

The Business Manager of a small school plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial, administrative, and operational functions to ensure the smooth running of the school. Here are the key roles and responsibilities

  • Financial Management
    • Budgeting and Financial Planning: Develop and manage the school's budget, ensuring funds are allocated effectively across departments.
    • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, providing insights on the school's financial status to leadership.
    • Audit and Compliance: Ensure that the school complies with financial regulations, including audits and tax filings.
  • Payroll and HR Management
    • Payroll Processing: Oversee payroll administration, ensuring timely and accurate salary payments for staff.
    • HR Support: Manage recruitment, contracts, and benefits administration for staff, as well as assist with performance appraisals and development plans.
    • Staff Wellbeing: Promote a positive working environment, addressing HR-related issues as they arise.
  • Procurement and Resource Management
    • Procurement: Oversee the purchasing of goods and services for the school, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
    • Resource Allocation: Manage the allocation and maintenance of school resources, from supplies to equipment and facilities.
  • Operations and Administration
    • Facilities Management: Ensure the upkeep of school buildings and grounds, managing maintenance and health & safety compliance.
    • Contract Management: Oversee contracts with external vendors, ensuring terms are met and services delivered as expected.
    • Policy Implementation: Ensure the school's operational policies are up-to-date and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Strategic Planning and Reporting
    • Collaboration with School Leadership: Work closely with the headteacher or principal to align financial and operational strategies with the school's overall goals.
    • Business Development: Identify opportunities for cost savings, revenue generation, and process improvement.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with external stakeholders such as local authorities, funding bodies, and parents, keeping them informed on relevant developments.
  • Data Management and Systems
    • Financial Software: Use accounting and administrative software to track budgets, financials, and resource usage.
    • Reporting Systems: Maintain accurate records and data
