About Us:

Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre (BYETC) is a Department of Education school operating within the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol. This multi-campus school caters to male and female students from across the state who are either on remand or have been sentenced for criminal offences. The school plays an important role in the community by providing young people in detention with the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, and values that can enhance their capacity to pursue positive choices in the future.
In order to maintain the engagement of students across the year and address learning gaps, funding is approved for education delivery over 48 weeks of the year. This aligns Queensland with other states and territories across Australia. Employment conditions remain aligned to the relevant awards but provide flexible leave arrangements to maintain continuous educational service delivery.

About the Role:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Demonstrate considerable autonomy and play an important role in providing advice that dictates business service delivery outcomes, inspires change and models best practices. Manage conflicting priorities to ensure strategic and sustainable business service outcomes.
  • Undertake the day-to-day supervision and management of the parent campus's school support staff, including monitoring workloads and employee performance.
  • Provide support and leadership in the provision of a range of executive and administrative support services (e.g. manage multiple tasks and diverse/multidisciplinary work groups with conflicting priorities and timeframes; interpret departmental policies and oversee training and professional development for school support staff) and recommend and implement changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of those processes and work practices.
  • Oversee a breadth of human resource activities (e.g. recruitment, induction, training, vacancy processing, skill gap analysis, performance management, workforce planning, and rehabilitation processes).
  • Provide facilities management advice and project management (e.g. evaluate new work and renovation projects in collaboration with the Principal; negotiate with external contractors; make recommendations and decisions in collaboration with the Principal). Consideration of alternative pathways for more effective and sustainable resource utilisation will also be required.
  • Contribute to the decision-making/ activities of the school management team, particularly with regard to providing input about human resource issues and the efficient and effective provision of corporate services to support school operations.

The successful applicant will lead and manage human resource practices for the parent and sub-campuses. You will be required to provide strategic solutions to a breadth of human resources issues that are routine and non-routine in nature while ensuring compliance with legislation and policy.
