Behavioural Support Assistant

Pay: £95-120 per day DOE Mon-Fri, Daily Hours: 8:30am - 4:00pm Full-time | Term Time Only Romford, Essex

We are looking for a dedicated Behavioural Support Assistants to work with pupils aged 4-19 years who require additional support with their social, emotional, behavioural, and learning needs. Many pupils have diagnoses including SEMH, SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties), and PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties). This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about making a positive difference and helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

Behavioural Support Assistant Role

  • Supporting pupils who display challenging behaviours and require additional emotional and behavioural support.
  • Providing 1:1 and small group interventions to help pupils regulate emotions and engage with learning.
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies and supporting individual behaviour plans.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience, and self-esteem.
  • Assisting pupils during lessons, transitions, break times, and other activities throughout the school day.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to create a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
  • Encouraging positive social interactions, communication skills, and emotional regulation.

    • Behavioural Support Assistant Requirements

  • A genuine interest in supporting children and young people with behavioural, emotional, and additional learning needs.
  • A patient, resilient, and proactive approach.
  • Experience working with children or young people displaying challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, or additional needs (desirable but not essential).
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence working in both 1:1 and group settings.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and respond positively to challenging situations.
  • Previous experience in education, youth work, care, support work, or similar settings is advantageous.
  • Ideal for aspiring Teachers, Educational Psychologists, Counsellors, Social Workers, or Youth Workers.
