Veritas Education are currently working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive Secondary School in Kirklees that is seeking a committed Behaviour Support Worker to join their pastoral and behaviour team. This is a vital role supporting students who require additional guidance, structure, and encouragement to access learning effectively.

You will work closely with teachers, pastoral leads, and SEND staff to support pupils with a range of behavioural, emotional, and social needs, helping them stay engaged in education and promoting a positive and safe school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group behaviour support and intervention.
  • Assist students in regulating behaviour using trauma-informed and de-escalation approaches.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with pupils to improve engagement and promote positive choices.
  • Support teaching staff in maintaining a calm and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Monitor, record, and report behaviour incidents in line with school policy.
  • Support pupils during lessons, social times, and transitions around school.
  • Contribute to behaviour support plans and pastoral strategies.
  • Candidate Requirements

  • Experience working with young people in education, youth work, care, or similar settings.
  • Confidence managing challenging behaviour and supporting emotional regulation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection (training can be provided).
  • Commitment to promoting equality, inclusion, and positive outcomes for all students.
