Autism and Communication Specialist - Teaching Assistant
Do you have a passion for supporting pupils with Special educational needs such as autism?
Veritas Education are currently working with a variety of different Special Schools in Barnsley. We are looking for a teaching assistant specialising in autism and Communication to help support a class on a 1:1 and group basis.
The role:
You will be supporting a class of 6 pupils, assisting the teacher supporting the students which have Autism and communication barriers.You will help produce and maintain engaging classroom materials and displays.You will provide practical and personal hygiene care support for the pupil.You will be helping the teacher identify and additional needs that the pupil may have and help adapt their daily care and plans to suit their needs.You will help the teacher with all daily activities and ensuring all the pupils are engaged.Helping the students progress with their communication challenges using Phonics and Makaton.Ideal Candidate
Previous experience working with children or young adults with Autism and Communication barriers.Skilled in phonics, Makaton or British Sign Language is desirable.Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.Ability to understand and react to pupils reactions and physical emotions.Experience and knowledge oh Phonics is a big plus for the pupils in this class.Application Requirements
