About this job

Position Information

Willoughby Public School is located in the vibrant North Shore suburb of Willoughby, NSW, a community known for its cultural diversity and strong family values. The school currently enrols 860 students, including 8 Aboriginal students and approximately 50% of students from English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) backgrounds, reflecting the multicultural richness of the local community.

In 2020, Willoughby Public School celebrated the opening of a new building, enhancing our learning environment with modern facilities. The school features a mix of traditional classrooms for early years and innovative open-learning hubs for students in Years 3 to 6, fostering collaboration, creativity, and flexible learning approaches.

Willoughby Public School prides itself on delivering high-quality teaching and learning programs that support academic achievement and student wellbeing. Special focus programs include English language support for EAL/D students, Indigenous education initiatives, and targeted literacy and numeracy enhancement. School priorities include fostering excellence in learning, promoting inclusivity, supporting cultural diversity, and ensuring student engagement and wellbeing through Restorative Practices.

Inclusive education is a cornerstone of our school culture. We are committed to providing equitable learning opportunities and support for all students. The school actively promotes student voice and leadership through the Student Advocacy Group and the Student Representative Council (SRC), both of which empower students to contribute to decision-making and school improvement. Additionally, the Parent Inclusion Group works closely with the school community to support inclusive practices and provide input on programs designed to meet diverse learning needs.

The school also supports High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) through strategic clustering of students to nurture talent and provide differentiated learning opportunities. This approach allows targeted challenges, enrichment programs and activities that foster intellectual growth and academic excellence among gifted learners.

The school benefits from a supportive parent community and an active P&C association that play vital roles in community engagement, contributing to a positive and collaborative school culture.
