Position Information

Telopea Public School is a small metropolitan school located on Darug land in the Carlingford Network of schools. The school has an enrolment of 128 students, including 61% with a language background other than English and 11% of students who identify as Aboriginal. Our families come from diverse backgrounds with students across a range of academic, social and emotional capabilities. 

The school enjoys and maintains a strong culture of inclusion as well as a sustained focus on the use of evidence-based practices to improve student outcomes. Teachers work in collaboration to ensure a shared understanding of what works best in employing explicit instruction to optimise learning progress across the full range of abilities. 

The school has a dedicated staff who are committed to high expectations, and continuous improvement in teaching practice to ensure the best possible academic and wellbeing outcomes for all students. The newly formed P&C and the Schools as Community Centre program, play an important role in strengthening partnerships between the school and the community. 

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, 
1. Approval to teach Infants and/or Primary  with the ability to lead improvement in literacy and numeracy through demonstrated understanding of explicit teaching and the practical application of this practice into teaching across the school. 
2. Highly effective interpersonal skills with the capacity to build authentic relationships with students, staff, parents and the community, leading to improved student outcomes in wellbeing, behaviour and attendance at school.
3. Demonstrated capacity to effectively balance the dual roles of exemplary classroom teacher and the responsibilities of school leadership. 
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
