Position Information

Moss Vale Public School is a semi-rural school located in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW (approximate enrolment for 2025 of 450, with 10% indigenous, 14% English as an Additional Dialect). Our school fosters an inclusive and supportive learning environment, emphasising collaborative curriculum planning to address the diverse needs of our students. Our support unit comprises of six specialist support classes and an early intervention service for pre-school age children, catering for approximately 70 students with a range of disability. In 2025 the school will also have 16 mainstream classes, including 1 Opportunity Class. The school is also identified as a location for 1 of the 100 new Department Preschools to be established for 2027. The dedicated team of teachers and support staff ensure each student is known, valued and cared for in nurturing and engaging classroom environments that improve student academic outcomes and social and emotional wellbeing.

The Assistant Principal for Inclusion and Support plays a crucial role within our highly collaborative and cohesive executive team, supporting the Deputy Principal of Inclusion and Support and Principal to strive to maintain high expectations and a positive culture. Our community actively engages in a three-way partnership among parents, staff, and students to promote a thriving educational environment.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism, intellectual disabilities and complex learning and behavioural needs within a support class with demonstrated ability to effectively manage the dual role of Assistant Principal and exemplary special education teacher.

Proven ability to lead and develop evidence-based and evaluative practices to implement high quality differentiated curriculum, including the development of individualised learning programs that maximise student engagement, with a strong focus on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students. 

Demonstrated ability to be a dynamic member of the executive leadership team and to lead initiatives that nurture positive quality relationships across the school community.

Evidence of leading and implementing flexible classroom management strategies which create a positive and inclusive learning environment to promote student engagement and connection, including students impacted by trauma.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
