Position Information
Hunter River Community School is an established K-12 School for Specific Purpose (SSP), dedicated to delivering the highest quality teaching and learning to meet the complex needs of 71 students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities and associated conditions. Since relocating to a state-of-the-art facility in Metford in 2014, the school proudly operates on Wonnarua traditional country and is a member of the Ka-ai Boorlang Local group of Schools. Serving a diverse student population from six local government areas, Hunter River Community School is strongly committed to excellence and innovation in teaching and learning. With eleven classes, each staffed by a full-time Specialist Teacher and a School Learning Support Officer, the school ensures every student receives highly personalised instruction and support.The school population is diverse and includes 10.14% of students who identify as being Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, 8.69% of students in an Out of Home Care arrangement, and 3 % of students identify as English Language Proficiency Staff use evidence-based practices, individualised strategies, and adaptive technologies to respond to students’ unique communication and learning needs. General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism, complex learning and behavioural needs within a support class, with demonstrated capacity to effectively manage the dual role of Assistant Principal and exemplary special education teacher.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and embed curriculum provisions which meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to drive and manage change by implementing evidence-based practices, using data to inform decisions, fostering collaboration, and continuously improving outcomes for students with complex needs.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
