Position Information
Lucas Heights Community School is in the Sutherland Shire suburb of Barden Ridge. Current enrolment K-12 is 823 students. There is a K-6 population of 262 students and a secondary enrolment of 561 students. There are 36 students enrolled from a First Nations background. The school has a K-12 support unit with 8 classes and an enrolment of 47 students.
Our teaching staff are dedicated to the delivery of learning programs designed to cater for the diverse range of student learning needs. We further support students with specific learning needs in both mainstream and in our support unit K-12 through the implementation of individual education plans.
The school prides itself in exceptional transition to high school programs and 21st century learning. Staff professional learning, quality teaching, collaboration and growth and attainment in literacy and numeracy are major focuses K-12. These focuses have been informed through our extensive situational analysis processes, including community consultation.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
1. In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach special education and/or experience in enhancing learning outcomes for students K-6 with autism, intellectual and/or physical disabilities including those with complex and diverse emotional needs.
2. Proven ability to lead and support colleagues in planning, implementing and evaluating practices by applying contemporary knowledge and understanding of curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements to deliver high quality differentiated learning and teaching programs.
3. Demonstrated high level organisational skills and proven ability to balance classroom teaching and the complex administrative requirements of an Assistant Principal leading an established K-6 support unit and working collaboratively with the K-12 executive team.
4. Demonstrated strong communication skills and the ability to lead and promote inclusivity and integration through highly developed interpersonal skills as well as fostering authentic and collaborative partnerships with all stakeholders.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
