Position Information
Halinda School is located in Mt Druitt, a suburb in Western Sydney known for its culturally diverse and low SES context. The school serves 114 students from Kindergarten through Year 12, all with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. Importantly, these students also have additional challenges, such as physical disabilities, vision or hearing impairments, autism spectrum disorder, diagnosed mental health conditions, or challenging behaviours. A key part of the school’s role is to help families understand educational options and services available for their children. Many families find it difficult to navigate the complex system of health, therapy, and educational supports. The school, in collaboration with parents/care givers, develops effective learning plans and access to accommodations and adjustments to meet students’ individual needs. This ongoing support is vital in ensuring students receive the best opportunities for learning and development.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria,
Knowledge of the evidence based current NSW DET School Behaviour Support Plan
Experience in implementing classroom trauma informed care practices to support students who have experienced complex trauma
Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, and parents, promoting trust and psychological safety to support meaningful collaborative consultation and joint problem-solving
Demonstrated Strengths in data collection and development of Positive Behaviour Support Plans to increase student engagement and positive behaviour
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
