Position Information

Brighton-Le-Sands Public School is located in the southern suburbs of Sydney, in close proximity to Sydney Airport. The school is renowned for the extra-curricular opportunities offered in sport, technology, and creative and performing arts, enabling our students to flourish through a range of different experiences. Student wellbeing and the provision of a supportive learning environment remain the focus for the school community. The school has 18 mainstream classes with a student enrolment of 430 students. The school will be introducing an inclusive learning hub of 3 support classes in 2025 including 2 AU classes and 1 AU/IO class. Our students come from a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. 76% of our students have a language background other than English. 1% of students identify as Aboriginal. The school has identified a need to use data driven practices to target areas of improvement in Reading and Numeracy and a continued emphasis on embedding quality teaching practices in literacy and numeracy and a strong focus on data informed practice.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, 

  1. Approval to teach Special Education/and or experience teaching students with additional learning needs including autism and intellectual disabilities with proven abilities to implement strategies to meet their communication, sensory and social needs using trauma-informed practices.
  2. Expert leadership skills with the ability to establish and lead a newly formed support unit in line with DoE policies to develop and implement high quality differentiated curriculum including Individual Educational Plans, Personalised Learning Pathways, Behaviour Support Plans and transition planning.
  3. Ability to promote inclusivity and integration through highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Evidence of a highly visible, approachable and collaborative leader with a capacity to develop, implement and maintain trusting relationships with the students, staff, families, the leadership team and external agencies.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
