Position Information
Farmborough Road Public School is a small school of 220 students (with 18% identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander). The school is located in the Lake Illawarra North Network. Our banner statement is “Inspiring a Community of Learners,” and the school enjoys rich community support. The school is currently composed of 8 mainstream classes, 2 autism support classes and 2 multi-categorical classes, catering for students with autism or other special needs. The school has a diverse student enrolment from a range of socio-economic backgrounds.
The school’s strategic directions are currently Student Growth and Attainment, Learning for all and Belonging for all. Our school is focusing on developing a culture of collaborative growth, engagement through challenge and feedback, and empowering our learners to learn.
The Assistant Principal Support will be an integral part of the executive team. Apart from working closely to lead the Support team, they will be expected to positively contribute to overall K-6 school improvement and initiatives.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with autism, behaviour difficulties, mental health issues and complex additional needs within a support class, with demonstrated ability to effectively manage the dual roles of assistant principal and exemplary classroom teacher.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead, inspire and mentor staff with a range of experience, building strong teams and cultivating a collaborative, cohesive working and learning school culture, that enhances an effective teaching/learning environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead evidence-based and evaluative practices to implement high-quality, engaging, differentiated curriculum, including the development and implementation of individual learning programs
- Experience in implementing collective wellbeing practices and processes that result in enhanced student engagement and an inclusive school environment where every student is known, valued and cared for.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
