Position Information

Connells Point Public School is situated in the south of Sydney, in the Kogarah network. In 2024, the school has a student enrolment of 470 students, with approximately 76% of students coming from non-English speaking backgrounds. There are approximately 32 different languages spoken across the school community. The school's Family Occupation and Employment Index (FOEI) is 30. The school has 19 mainstream classes and 3 support classes for students with a primary diagnosis of autism. 

The school's leadership team is a combination of experienced school leaders and executive staff in the early stages of their leadership career.  The school has a strong reputation across the community for high-quality teaching and learning programs, nurturing wellbeing initiatives and extensive extra-curricular offerings for all students. The school's learning environments are student-centred, flexible and conducive to best practice.

Staff adopt a collaborative approach to planning and curriculum development. Priority is also placed on the design and implementation of authentic and differentiated learning experiences, to ensure that students across all ability levels are accessing personalised learning experiences.

Student wellbeing is also a high priority at Connells Point Public School. The school's Diverse Learning Team place a high priority on supporting students to reach their full potential. In 2024, the school's priorities are to build on the evidence-based teaching practices that are in place across the school.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, 

  1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism and varying complex needs.
  2. Demonstrated capacity to work with the school leadership team to foster a school-wide culture and practice of inclusion and equity, leading to improved outcomes for students with disabilities. 
  3. Evidence of a highly, visible, approachable and collaborative leader with a capacity to develop, implement and maintain trusting relationships with the students, staff, families, the leadership team and external agencies. 

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
