Position Information

Chatswood Public School is an NSW Public School located on Sydney's north shore and was founded in 1883.The current school enrolment for K-6 students is 1120 students, with 93% of our students from non-English speaking backgrounds that represent a wide variety of cultural groups, primarily Chinese, Korean and Indian, and students identified as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. Chinese and Korean community language programs are offered to students. An emphasis on inclusivity, and celebrating the differences existing throughout our student population, strengthens our school community.The school delivers quality learning programs addressing the needs of all learners, including two opportunity classes for gifted students, Korean Bilingual classes and an Inclusive Hub with one multi-categorical and two autism classes. Modelled, guided and independent instruction is evident in daily practice and teaching and learning programs.The school has a proud tradition of achievement in the creative arts with outstanding established programs in music and provides students with the opportunity to participate in a wide range of extra-curriculum activities. General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with complex learning needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Moderate Intellectual Disabilities with diverse behavioural and emotional needs, K-6.

Expert leadership skills with the ability to establish and lead a newly formed support unit in line with DoE policies to develop and implement high quality differentiated curriculum including Individual Educational Plans, Personalised Learning Pathways, Behaviour Support Plans and transition planning.

Ability to promote inclusivity and integration through highly developed communication and interpersonal skills; and to foster authentic and collaborative partnerships with all stakeholders.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
