About this job

Position Information

Barwon Learning Centre is a School for Specific Purposes in a small, rural setting. The school has the capacity to cater for 3 classes with a maximum of 7 students per class; supporting students in years 5 – 10 with emotional disturbances and/or behavioural disorders. Our school offers trauma-informed education programs for a minimum of 20 weeks aimed at supporting students with identified educational, social, and/or behavioural challenges.

Students are referred by their base school due to identified challenges in engaging with the academic, behavioural, and social aspects of their regular school environment. Our focus is on providing all members of our school community with a safe and caring environment in which students can access quality teaching and learning, as well as opportunities to develop insight into the management of their behaviour.

Barwon Learning Centre prioritises the development of academic, behavioural, and social skills, ultimately striving for successful reintegration into mainstream schooling or post-school pathways. Our school is committed to providing staff with trauma-informed training and support to ensure that our practices and interactions reflect the needs of our students and school community.

The Assistant Principal Special Education role includes a classroom teaching load.
