Position Information

Smithfield Public School is in the Fairfield school area of the Metropolitan South and West Performance Directorate. It is one of the first national schools established in 1850. There are approximately 586 students enrolled P–6. This includes a preschool, an Opportunity Class, 9 classes for students with disabilities, including an Early Intervention Unit. Smithfield Public School also hosts a satellite class from ASPECT, the governing body for people with Autism. Students come from a diverse range of language backgrounds approximating 84% of the student population. Of these students, 74% have English as an additional language and there are several students who are New Arrivals. The New Arrivals are largely Arabic and Assyrian speakers from Iraq and Syria. Over 30 languages are represented in the school community, with Arabic, Assyrian and Vietnamese being the largest groups. 31 students identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) are supported by a strong commitment to ATSI education. General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary 
1. Approval to teach infants and/or primary with the capacity to lead a culture of continuous improvement driven by data, expert curriculum knowledge, and evidence-based pedagogy to drive high impact literacy and numeracy programs.
2. Demonstrated highly visible and inclusive leadership with the capacity to effectively balance a dual role, with a proven ability to implement and support management practices in line with strategic directions and effectively lead and support teachers of varying levels of expertise and experience.
3. An open and approachable leader with demonstrated capacity to promote and strengthen a culture of high expectations and build strong authentic partnerships to meet the needs of a diverse school community.
4. Capacity to lead, inspire and mentor staff to implement future learning and innovative pedagogy using an integrated approach to curriculum delivery and to maximise student engagement and learning.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
