The School:

St Mary’s is a co-educational school catering for children from Transition to Year 6 where everyone is welcomed, nurtured and encouraged to grow in the footsteps of Christ. St Mary’s is Darwin’s oldest Catholic primary school and the only school within the Darwin CBD, situated adjacent to St Mary’s Star of the Sea Cathedral.

The Role:

The Assistant Principal Religious Education / Religious Education Coordinator shares with the Principal the responsibility for spirituality, faith formation and the Catholic curriculum. The Assistant Principal Religious Education / Religious Education Coordinator is responsible for supporting teachers in the implementation of the Journey in Faith curriculum and the integration of the Catholic perspective across the curriculum. This executive position is to be held by a practicing Catholic who is committed to the Catholic faith. 

Essential Criteria:

  • Be a Catholic who is an active member of a Catholic Sunday Eucharistic community 
  • A person with integrity who has a personal relationship with and commitment to Christ and a just engagement with the world 
  • Capacity to promote and lead the identity and mission of the school as a Catholic school in the context of a pluralised and secularised society 
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead others in faith formation experiences and social justice initiatives 
  • A skilled educator with demonstrated capacity to lead a team of educators in the design, implementation and assessment practices in the Religious Education curriculum 
  • Demonstrates contemporary pedagogical practice in Religious Education relevant to the cultural context of the school community 
  • Effective and highly developed interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Hold a Graduate Certificate in Religious Education and completion or working towards a Masters Degree in Religious Education, Theological Studies and or Catholic educational leadership (or equivalent).
