Position Information

Merrylands East Public School is located just south off the Parramatta CBD in the South West Sydney. The school's current enrolment is 353 students in 15 mainstream classes. Ninety one percent of students come from 40 different language background other than English and or have a refugee background.   

Merrylands East prioritises evidence based practices in literacy and numeracy within an integrated curriculum. Teachers work collaboratively in stage groups to develop learning units and assessment practices in an inclusive learning environment. Differentiated pedagogical practices are used to cater for the diverse needs of all students.

The school's learning support team is integral to the teaching and learning for students. Personalised learning plans are developed to assist students access the curriculum. The school works extensively with paraprofessionals, allied health and other interagencies to support students and their families.  

Merrylands East Public School class times are from 8am to 1:15pm.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with demonstrated educational leadership in a linguistically and culturally diverse community using evidence based teaching and learning strategies for growth in learning.
Outstanding interpersonal and team work skills with a capacity to embed student and staff wellbeing strategies across the school.
Demonstrated capacity to strategically and collaboratively lead data driven assessment in the teaching learning cycle with a focus on improving student literacy and numeracy outcomes.
Knowledge and proven ability to implement inclusive education strategies for students with high complex needs and trauma backgrounds.

 
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
