Position Information

The Assistant Principal Learning and Support (APLaS) is a school-based position located at at Manly Vale Public School. Manly Vale Public School has an enrolment of 549 students.

The Assistant Principal Learning and Support supports schools to provide direct assistance to students with additional learning and support needs, and their teachers. The Assistant Principal Learning and Support will provide support to K-12 schools in the Beaches Network.

The Assistant Principal Learning and Support is a member of the local Team Around a School (TAaS) operating within the Student Wellbeing Support directorate (SWS) and is part of the Teaching, Learning and Student Wellbeing division.

The Assistant Principal Learning and Support are the first point of contact to Team Around a School (TAaS), responding to the school’s request for support with individual students, transition and wellbeing programs and practices, and sharing specialist knowledge, skills and understanding in the areas of disability, inclusion, mental health and attendance.

Although based at Manly Vale Public school the Assistant Principal Learning and Support will be required to travel around the network to provide support and professional learning to local schools. 

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, 
  • Approval to teach students with learning and support needs primary and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs primary in regular classes.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead inclusive, evidence-based practices across the school to improve learning, engagement, and wellbeing outcomes for students with additional learning and support needs

     

  • Proven capacity to lead and collaborate with teachers, support staff, families, and multidisciplinary professionals to build staff capability and implement personalized learning and behavior supports

  • Demonstrated expertise in curriculum access, NCCD aligned assessment adjustments, personalized planning, and strategic use of learning support resources, supported by strong communication and data-informed decision-making

     

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
