Position Information

This position is based in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, and covers the area from Megalong Valley to Lapstone.  The position is based at Blaxland East Public School and requires travel between schools.  A driver's license and the ability to travel is essential for the successful candidate.  Blaxland East Public School has approximately 400 students enrolled, hosting a MC Support Class and Opportunity Class.  Approximately 10% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.  The APLaS is part of the Regional North Team Around the School and is expected to work closely with staff from Nirimba office and the schools in the Blue Mountains.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria:
1. Approval to teach students with learning and support needs and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs in regular and support classes.

2. Demonstrated capacity to support both very experienced and beginning teachers with developing programs to support students with additional needs.

3. Demonstrated capacity to liaise with school executive and Team around a School staff to provide support, co-ordinate services and facilitate Professional Learning as needed across the Blue Mountains network.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
