Position Information

Helensburgh Public School (471 enrolments, 19 Aboriginal students and 23 EAL/D students) is located in North Wollongong. The school improvement plan focuses on literacy, numeracy, student wellbeing, and leadership development. Quality Teaching Successful Students funds are used to release stage teams for literacy and numeracy professional development each week. Explicit teaching and differentiation are essential pedagogical focuses within the school improvement plan. The school is committed to strengthening a whole school approach to student wellbeing with a recent emphasis on developing consistent classroom management strategies and teaching social-emotional learning (Friendly Schools Program). The school staff is collaborative, committed, and caring and there is a balance of early career and experienced teachers. The P&C and parent body strongly support Helensburgh Public School. 

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with the capacity to balance the dual role of a Stage 3 Assistant Principal. Demonstrated ability to lead professional learning that ensures the continual development of literacy and numeracy teaching across the curriculum. Strong knowledge, practice and engagement in leading and evaluating improvements to effective classroom teaching practices such as explicit teaching and differentiation. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the demonstrated ability to improve classroom management practices and build positive relationships with all stakeholders.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
