About this job

Position Information

Bathurst Public School has a proud heritage as the oldest public school in the district. Having opened in 1853, the school has contributed to the city's rich history by educating generations of Bathurst's children. Located within the Bathurst Central District, our student enrolments are drawn from an established residential area, with a forecast annual population increase of 0.7%.
Bathurst Public School has an enrolment of 429 students. The school consists of 16 mainstream classes, five support classes, and 50 staff, including itinerant teachers, the Home School Liaison Officer, and specialist teachers. Our student population has, on average, 12% Aboriginal students, with a growing percentage of students from non-English speaking backgrounds.
From within the school and the community, specialist teaching staff provide an extensive performing arts program that provides students with a range of performance opportunities, from the Sydney Opera House and the Schools Spectacular to local eisteddfods and a significant school concert.
The school provides many sporting opportunities for students, with various sports offered through PSSA sporting competitions. Each year, students are selected to represent the district and region in multiple sports. For more information on our school, please visit: bathurst-p.schools.nsw.gov.au

In preparation for writing our new school improvement plan, we collected and analysed a range of data and consulted authentically with parents, teachers, students and the local AECG. From this, we have determined three high-impact directions that will drive whole school improvement over the next four years. These build upon the work undertaken in the previous school planning cycle around building teacher efficacy and implementing evidence-based practices.
To achieve student growth and attainment, we use data-driven practices that ensure all students have access to stage-appropriate learning. We prepare teachers for explicit teaching by deepening their understanding of the curriculum and new evidence-based research around students' learning. Through the NAPLAN gap analysis, the school has identified system-negotiated targets in reading and numeracy.
We develop a positive culture of continuous improvement and support through our professional practice. As school leaders, the executive ensures research, innovation, and creativity are core characteristics of the school's continuous improvement culture. High-impact teaching strategies are incorporated into daily teaching practices through the collaborative work of stage teams.
We embed a whole-school approach to wellbeing to ensure students, parents, and teachers feel connection and belonging. We have developed a shared understanding of the many dimensions of wellbeing and the evidence-based practices we can use to meet the full range of student needs. By building positive student-teacher relations and fostering a strong sense of connectedness and belonging across the school community, we seek to lift the performance of all students and improve student engagement and participation.
