Position Information

At Bargo Public School we create a culture of high expectations and collaboration in teaching, learning and community connections. Bargo Public School is in a semi-rural township located in the lower plains of the Southern Highlands of NSW, set in a very natural setting, recently celebrating 150 years in 2019. It has an average Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) of 123. There are approximately 270 students enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 6. 11.6% of students identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and 9% of students from English as an Additional Language and Dialect (EALD) background. The school consists of 13 classes, including one specialised Autism class. Bargo Public School has a strong relationship with their energetic P&C, which consists of parents, carers and members of the wider community.  

The current school plan focuses on explicit and embedded systems to support a high level of accountability of school wide processes and practices. It is important that this plan builds on the successful gains made by students and staff in the areas of curriculum, wellbeing, data informed practice and teacher professional learning and collaboration.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary 

1. A demonstrated capacity to balance the dual roles of an exemplary classroom teacher with the complex responsibilities of a school leadership role.

2. Proven ability to lead, model and build teacher capability in the implementation of high-quality literacy and numeracy programs using evidence-based assessment and effective data analysis to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

3. Proven ability to work in partnership with students, staff and families to lead and enhance existing wellbeing systems,  practices and processes, including Learning and Support. 

4. Proven ability to lead with integrity and develop strong collaborative teams characterised by high levels of collective efficacy and relational trust that enable students to benefit from the combined knowledge and expertise of the team

5. A visible leader with the ability to demonstrate strong emotional intelligence and outstanding interpersonal skills to initiate, build and strengthen positive partnerships with students, parents, staff and the wider community.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
