About this job

Position Information

School of the Air is a distance education primary school located in Broken Hill, with a second campus in Hay. We have around 145 enrolments from preschool to Year 6, the majority of whom are geographically isolated students. Just under 10% identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Students learn through distance education via live lessons on Teams and through prepared learning activities sent out by their class teacher based in Broken Hill. Students are supported at home by a supervisor who assists with engaging students in programmed activities in their schoolrooms and returning activities with feedback to the teacher.

Our calendar is filled with regular events, such as classrooms, mini schools and excursions. We have a very active and supportive P&C who support many school activities and are instrumental in facilitating and hosting mini schools, a highlight of our school calendar.

It is an exciting time to part of our school; we have transitioned to Teams for live lessons and are exploring how we can innovatively use technology to teach explicitly and be in our students’ current week.

The Assistant Principal will be based in Broken Hill, on Wilyakali Country, and work closely with stage-based teams, the Assistant Principal at our second campus, the AP C&I as well as the school executive team.
