Position Information

Wahroonga Public School, founded in 1944, is situated on Garigal land and acknowledges the GariNgai people. It is affectionately known as 'The Bush School' due to its native Blue Gum High Forest setting and attractive grounds, natural and built.

Current enrolment is 530 students, across 20 mainstream classes and 3 support classes, with 44% of students from a non-English language background. The school caters for all students and prides itself on a culture of inclusion and participation. The school sees strong academic achievement and strives to achieve a balance between high expectations for academic learning while providing a nurturing environment with student wellbeing at the core.  

The school has high student engagement and students enjoy a broad range of extra-curricular activities including renowned band and sporting programs. 

The school has a diverse and dedicated teaching staff who work collaboratively to plan and implement learning programs. It has strong partnerships with the active parent body and involved community which are very supportive of school’s programs and initiatives.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach K-6 and a demonstrated ability to lead the implementation of curriculum and build the capacity of staff to successfully contextualise curriculum reform to meet the learning needs of students.

Evidence of outstanding interpersonal skills used to build a culture of collaborative practices resulting in student achievement and improvement.

Active involvement in school improvement and leadership of initiatives beyond the classroom, positively impacting students and the school community. 
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

 

Special Notes

This is a permanent part-time position of 3 per week, 0.6FTE (full time equivalent).
