About You

Are you highly motivated and experienced in applying relevant legislation, standards, policies and guidelines fairly with experience managing and leading a team? The Home Education Unit is seeking an Assistant Manager, who is dedicated and detail oriented to contribute to the policies, systems and processes to support regulatory services for home education in Queensland.

A suitable candidate would have the ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy in a regulatory environment, make sound judgments and recommendations regarding appropriate course of action, analyse and interpret data, manage a high volume of work, meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality. You will have a demonstrated ability to engage with stakeholders, and have an understanding of the home education sector, or be able to rapidly acquire this based on your experience in working with stakeholders.

Your Opportunity:

As the Assistant Manager you will:

  • Work in partnership with the Manager and the Executive Director in the operations of the Home Education Unit.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, systems and processes to support the regulation of registration of students for home education.

The Assistant Manager, reports to the Manager, Home Education Unit, Registration Services Branch, Policy, Performance and Planning Division.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provide management and leadership to a team with key responsibilities for regulation of home education registrations in Queensland, in consultation with the Manager and other senior officers as appropriate.
  • Provide expert advice to the Manager, Home Education Unit regarding the development and application of procedures to review, assess and make decisions on applications received for registration of home education.
  • Prepare advice, reports and briefing documentation for senior management in response to correspondence from parents of children registered for home education.
  • Research, analyse, interpret and review legislation governing home education in Queensland and other impacting issues in order to provide advice, briefings and preparation of correspondence for the Manager and senior management.
