About the Role:
Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
- Preparation of all agricultural field sites and agricultural machinery, equipment and materials.
- Planting, watering and care of crops and market gardens and related duties including regular physical maintenance and the use of appropriate insecticides and fertilisers where necessary.
- Care and feeding of animals, cleaning cages and pens and related duties.
- Take simple measurements, for example, weighing crop yields.
- Order and/or collect general agricultural supplies and materials as authorised by the Head of Department, Principal or nominated delegate.
The successful Agricultural Assistant will support the delivery of our Certificate III in Agriculture program and the day-to-day operations of the school farm. The role involves working with a variety of animals across multiple locations, including cattle, sheep, chickens, guinea pigs, insects and fish, as well as maintaining our hydroponics and aquaponics systems.
Highly desirable skills and experience:
- Towing trailers, driving tractors and trucks, and undertaking general farm maintenance such as fencing and electric fencing.
- Sound knowledge of animal husbandry and a willingness to assist with emergencies, including occasions when animals escape or support is needed on public holidays or weekends.
