About the Team

The Industrial Relations Strategy team, within the Human Resources Strategy Branch plays a critical role in managing the Department of Education's industrial relations framework. The team leads five complex bargaining rounds for the department, including managing industrial action, scope applications, and industrial disputes related to bargaining.    

Your Role

This Brisbane-based AO5 Advisor role reports to the Manager, Industrial Relations Strategy, you will join the team to assist in developing and implementing new and revised processes, policies and procedures relevant to employee and industrial relations.

The team's work is dynamic and evolves throughout the bargaining cycle, with agreements expiring every three years. The role involves  contributing to the ongoing coordination and promotion of high-quality employee and industrial relations services and solutions in a large and complex organisation and to lead and oversee projects with a specific focus on industrial relations outcomes associated with enterprise bargaining.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research and analysis to address industrial relations issues and support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Engage in consultation and negotiations with key stakeholders, including departmental units, unions, professional associations, and public sector agencies, to resolve industrial relations matters.
  • Develop, implement, and review processes, policies, and procedures related to employee and industrial relations, while drafting correspondence, briefing notes, and advice to support organisational objectives.
  • Establish and maintain networks and liaise with officers from other agencies, unions and other external bodies to promote and monitor contemporary employee and industrial relations matters.

About You:

  • Strong understanding of industrial relations, including the ability to interpret legislation, industrial instruments, policies and procedures.
  • Proven ability to provide sound advice and innovative solutions on industrial relations matters.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills to address industrial relations issues and contribute to policy and process development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage stakeholders, including managers, unions and external bodies.
