Applications are invited for a qualified and enthusiastic Acting Leader - Head of Religious Education to join the MacKillop Catholic College, Mount Peter team for term 1, 2025.


Contract Dates:
3 February 2025 to 4 April 2025 (Weeks 2-10)
Employment Type: Full Time, Fixed Term Middle Leader Position 
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience - 
Graduate $84,077 - Proficient 4 $104,841 FTE gross per annum, plus Tier 2C allowance $15,799 gross per annum FTE 
OR Proficient 5 and above: $136,892 FTE gross per annum

MacKillop Catholic College, Mount Peter

MacKillop Catholic College, a master-planned Prep to Year 12 College located in the growing southern corridor of Cairns, was established in 2016 with Prep-Year 3 classes. The College has developed progressively, adding additional year levels annually, and commenced secondary education in 2020 with Year 7, and the first Year 12 cohort graduating in 2025.  Guided by the authentic discipleship of Saint Mary MacKillop of the Cross, and the Josephite tradition, our mission, to inspire hearts, minds and spirits, is grounded in the vision to provide quality 21st century education to the young people in our community.

About the Role

The position of Leader – Head of Religious Education (Years 7-12), acknowledges the important and distinctive place of Religious Education and faith formation within Catholic schools.

The Leader – Head of Religious Education provides leadership in Religious Education, including the teaching of Religion, according to Cairns Catholic Education policies and practices and QCAA requirements.  The role holder works as part of a collaborative team culture and faith formation and supports student engagement in religion and outreach.

The Leader – Head of Religious Education also supports and assists the Deputy Principal - Identity and Outreach in providing formation and service opportunities for staff, students and parents including: Secondary assembly prayer, department prayers, student home form prayers as well as fostering a connection with the Edmonton Parish.

Mandatory Qualifications and Requirements

  • Formal qualifications at Degree level in Education, Teaching or other relevant field
  • Registered or eligible to register with Queensland College of Teachers
  • Leadership experience:
      • Demonstrated ability in educational leadership.
      • Demonstrated administrative ability.
      • Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relationships.
  • Willingness to achieve Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School and Accreditation to Teach Religion in a Catholic School (Teachers of Religious Education)
  • Willingness to support and participate in the prayer, liturgy and sacramental life of the Church in the school community
  • Capacity to understand and implement Duty of Care and Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
  • Current drivers licence
  • A strong demonstrated commitment to the objectives, vision, and ethos of Catholic Education
  • Promote child safety at all times

Work Requirements

  • Be registered or eligible to be registered with Queensland College of Teachers
  • Be fully supportive of the ethos of Catholic Education
