About the Role

St Brigid's CPS, Coonamble is seeking a dedicated Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO) to join the school community. The Aboriginal Education Officer acts as a key connection between Indigenous students, their families, the school, and the wider community. This role provides cultural, educational, and pastoral support to ensure every Indigenous student is given the opportunity to thrive academically and personally. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Building strong connections with First Nations families and welcoming new families into the school community. 
  • Supporting the development and implementation of Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs). 
  • Promoting and celebrating Aboriginal culture across the whole school. 
  • Assisting with literacy and numeracy support for Aboriginal students, both in class and in small group/individual settings. 
  • Encouraging regular attendance, supporting transitions, and exploring career pathways with students. 
  • Providing pastoral care, encouragement, and guidance to Aboriginal students. 
  • Working alongside teachers and school leadership to ensure culturally inclusive learning experiences.

About You

The successful applicant must address the following selection criteria: 

  • Provide confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and sincere commitment to the aims and philosophy of Catholic
    Education, including the values of social justice, equity and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrate an appropriate level of skill in literacy and numeracy especially as it relates to
    assisting students.
  • Demonstrate your ability to work as part of a team to cater for the needs of Aboriginal & Torres
    Strait Islander students.
  • Demonstrate your ability to work with families and community, especially in challenging situations.
  • Demonstrate your knowledge of educational issues that affect Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander
    students.
  • Demonstrate links with the local Aboriginal community.
  • Demonstrate your ability to promote and celebrate Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander traditions
    and culture within the whole school.
