This conference is suitable for anyone with an interest in Working Memory, specifically Educators and  Allied Health Professionals. We will be running two concurrent streams that will provide you with an opportunity to learn specifically about the aspects that are most relevant to your work.

Streams and Agenda

Educators Stream

This stream is suitable for professionals working in education including, but not limited to; teachers, special education teachers, learning coordinators, and counsellors.

In this stream topics such as working memory and reading disabilities, talking to parents, staff and the community about working memory and the research behind the trainability of working memory will be explored.

Clinical Stream

This stream is suitable for Allied Health Professionals such as, psychologists, occupational therapists and speech pathologists. At the conference this stream will investigate topics of interest to professionals in this field, such as cognitive remediation

Confirmed Keynotes

Dr Rosemary Tannock

Rosemary Tannock, PhD, is the Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and Senior Scientist, Psychiatry Research at The Hospital for Sick Children. She is well-known for her work with attention and literacy issues.

Currently Rosemary Tannock's research focuses on working memory, inhibition, and comprehension of spoken and written language. she is interested in the normal development of these critical aspects of cognitive function, their efficiency in various neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD, reading disorder, specific language impairments), and their sensitivity to specific treatment modalities (pharmacological,cognitive-behavioural).

Abstract:
Dr Rosemary Tannock presents Pay attention to inattention & its impact on learning.
This presentation will focus on classroom inattention, its negative impact on academic outcomes, and evidence-based approaches for reducing inattentive behaviour and enhancing learning.

Dr Roy Sugarman

Dr Sugarman is a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist, working internationally with elite athletes, military and corporate leaders, helping them build resilience against the stresses of daily life at the high end of competition. His particular interest is in how complex and robust movement scaffolds increasing brain efficiency, and how various aspects of lifestyle such as nutrition and mindset impact on capacity to thrive. The author of books on lifestyle, as well as an international textbook for personal trainers on motivating healthy change, Dr Sugarman is currently Director: Applied Neuroscience EXOS™ of the top three sports innovation groups in the world, and of LifeIQ™ in Sydney/Singapore.

Abstract:

Dr Sugarman examines how working memory evolves across the lifespan.
Infants are born with visual working memory and evolve verbal working memory de novo. Dr Sugarman follows this trajectory and how the underpinning of working memory enables the full operation of the executive functions, as well as how best to scaffold and improve these vital functions in children and adults, using case histories.
