Wakakirri Story Dance Challenge

Event by Wakakirri

Hundreds of Primary and Secondary school students across Australia are in the final stages of creating Story Dances for Wakakirri that reflect their thoughts, ideas and aspirations. These stories will be performed in professional theatres in front of the official Wakakirri ‘National Panel’ who are searching for the ‘Story of the Year’. Over 1 million people watch Wakakirri performances every year.

Date August 1, 2016 - August 1, 2016
Time 9:00am - 3:11pm

This year’s panel include Justine Clarke, actor and entertainer, Jason Coleman, choreographer and former judge on So You Think You Can Dance, ballroom dancer and TV personality Mark Wilson, actor Andrew McFarlane, entertainment industry veteran Todd McKenney and musical theatre legend Wayne Scott Kermond.

“…..you are going to see incredibly talented kids on stage, you are going to see originality and an expression of confidence.  [Wakakirri] is a unique experience.  I’ve never seen it anywhere else and being an actor myself, it takes me back to my youth when I was full of that kind of enthusiasm.  I think it’s fantastic!” Andrew McFarlane

Originally established in 1992, the Wakakirri Story Dance Challenge hosts shows around Australia where schools perform to a live audience of family, friends, industry professionals and other school communities.

Performing in Wakakirri is an experience students never forget. Participants spend show day rehearsing and meeting other schools, and in the evening they walk the red carpet with the Wakakirri Panel and perform on the big stage.
