RADIO ACTIVE offers the perfect opportunity to discover the stars of tomorrow today!

RADIO ACTIVE features a diverse repertoire covering all musical bases from pop to rock, R ‘n’ B to soul and funk classics in a spectacularly produced concert with a huge cast of talented young musicians and singers from WAAPA.

This amazing group of talented contemporary music students will be directed by highly acclaimed WAAPA staff members; award-winning Australian Session Drummer Ric Eastman (Human Nature, WASO, Thelma Houston, Lee Konitz, Ernie Watts and the Jazz Australia Big Band), Mike Eastman, Course Coordinator for Contemporary Music at WAAPA and in-demand singer/recording artist (Top 10 in the Australian Songwriting Awards, Runner up International Song Contest and Semi-Finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest) and WAAPA lecturer, Matt Allen.

Mike Eastman is very happy with how this annual project has grown.

“The concert has been a huge success for the past five years. Compared to a run-of-the-mill pub gig where there are plenty of places to hide while belting out a rocker, in RADIO ACTIVE, the students must rely on their vocal and musical talents to keep the audience on the edge of their seats."

Eastman is excited about the diverse selection of songs that will be presented on the night, ranging from current hits by the likes of Mark Ronson and Ed Sheeran to older classics by artists like Paul McCartney, Janet Jackson and Marvin Gaye.

The three Music Directors have placed no limits on era or style so expect a feast for the ears and something for all ages.

Their genre-hopping will cover everything from a traditional pop song to acapella, gospel and the odd rearrangement of something familiar.

In this fully produced concert WAAPA celebrates 50 years of radio hits as over 40 student’s make these much–loved classics their own in a spectacularly produced show with WAAPA’s amazing lighting and sound students taking over all production duties.
