In the current climate of Australian Curriculum, formalisation of early childhood classrooms and the push for data collection, is it possible to maintain play-based pedagogy in a Prep classroom?? The answer is YES!! In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore how early childhood teachers are able to balance the demands of an increasingly overcrowded curriculum with the best practice model of child-centred, emergent learning in Prep. Participants will examine 'a day in the life of Prep B' and how child-initiated questions/observations form the basis for 'inquiry-based' investigations through which curriculum content can be delivered. At the completion of the workshop, participants will have practical knowledge and strategies that will assist them to fit the Australian Curriculum content descriptors to their students' interests and individual learning needs.
