Expressing and developing our ideas - the building blocks of the sentence

This workshop will use literature to develop understandings of sentence, clause and word level grammar as described in the Australian Curriculum: English Language Strand.

Date August 25, 2018 - August 25, 2018
Time 8:30am - 12:30pm

Presented by: Bronwyn Custance.

Bronwyn will explore ways in which mentor texts can be used to develop a metalanguage which assists students in not only constructing their own texts, but also in deconstructing, critically analysing and comprehending other texts across the curriculum.

By attending this session participants will:

  • have a clear understanding of what a clause is, its 3 components and how to teach this to students using literature
  • trial activities to create rich expanded sentences
  • apply this knowledge about language to study author craft in an aid to comprehension and author intent.

Having worked in education for over 30 years, Bronwyn is passionate about the explicit teaching of language and grammar and the difference it can make for students across all curriculum areas of schooling, and in their lives beyond school.

  • Successful educator and mentor in the areas of Literacy and English language
