The Education in Games Summit 2016 is supported by The Department of Education and Training, in partnership with Creative Victoria and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).

Themed Inspire+Design+Play, and part of Melbourne International Games Week, the Education in Games Summit 2016 invites professional educators to join us for a day packed with insights and practical takeaways about games, gameful thinking, and techniques to bring the Digital Technologies Curriculum to life.

The Summit is a fantastic learning opportunity offered by the Department of Education and Training featuring keynote speeches, great-practice talks and panels, workshops that create connections with games that can be applied in the classroom, as well as tools and techniques that align with curricular demands, from beginner to advanced levels.

Participants will:

  • Experience classroom teachers, students, game developers and tertiary specialists sharing great practices, and discussing future directions.
  • Gain practical insights from national and international educational game-based learning researchers, game content providers and STEM experts.
  • Learn about how to design and create meaningful games and apps from students, colleagues and professional game developers.
  • Be able to take a guided tour focused on video game culture through ACMI’s Screen Worlds exhibition, and to play games made by students as part of the Victorian Schools Games and Apps Challenge, as well as to try out some of the latest commercial educational games products.
  • Optionally, be able to enjoy PAX Australia a day prior, with one of our package tickets

The 2016 Education in Games Summit will feature renowned keynote speakers and a host of educational and game industry leaders, as well as student voices.

Opening the Summit will be Dr Kurt D Squire, Professor of Digital Media and Co-Director of the prestigious Games+Learning+Society Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The closing keynote will be delivered by Annabel Astbury, Head of Digital Education at the ABC, where she works with a dedicated team to create ABC Splash.
