What is comprehension? In this practical workshop, Susan will consider the comprehension instruction practices that English and Science teachers engage in as they implement the curriculum in their classrooms. She will also share examples of comprehension instruction in action across a variety of settings and age groups.

Susan Byers has taught in government and independent schools, and currently is the Co-ordinator of Literacy Teaching and Learning (K-6) and Learning Support Co-ordinator at an independent school in South-Western Sydney. She is in the final stages of her Doctor of Education at the University of Wollongong. Her research investigates the beliefs, understandings and practices of comprehension and comprehension instruction of English and Science teachers in Year 5 – 8.
