APPROACHING CONTEMPORARY ART
Friday 4 December, 9am–3.30pm
Gain insight into art as an important teaching and learning tool, and discover how to unlock the power and creative potential of your students. This two-part program presented by artist and educator Jane Deeth will encourage teachers to experiment with different ways to both respond to and make art. Consider the diverse purposes and roles of art in contemporary society: as narrative, representation, expression, abstraction and topic of conversation. In the second part of this program learn how to develop your own observational skills so that you—and later your students—can become confident art interpreters. Techniques to encourage student interest and engagement, and strategies to assist with interpreting different types of art, will be presented.
Recommended for visual arts teachers of all year levels.
