School / Last updated 6 years, 1 month ago

Woy Woy Public School has an enrolment of 493 students, including 67 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 82 students who speak English as an additional language dialect. The school is situated on the Brisbane Water inlet on the Central Coast of NSW. The school has five support classes, a ‘Schools as Community Centre’, a preschool and 16 mainstream classes K – 6. The school's vision is: "We challenge and support all students to achieve their personal best". There is a strong emphasis on the explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy skills in K – 2 classes, as evident in the delivery of the L3 and TEN programs, that will be balanced against an increased focus on play-based learning from next year onwards. Students in Years 3 – 6 structure their learning using the AVID framework and the Focus on Reading model. They also participate in weekly Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden lessons. From next year students in Years 3 – 6 will receive instruction in STEM, Humanities, the Arts and PDHPE from staff members who specialise in these areas. The school is a Positive Behaviour for Learning school. Our student welfare system emphasises the explicit teaching of school rules and expectations, and the rewarding and acknowledging of good behaviour in order to enable our students to connect, succeed and thrive.
