West Wyalong is a rural public school that sits on Wiradjuri lands in the central west of New South Wales. The school has a current enrolment of 239 students of whom 36 identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
The school has 28 staff including an executive of three Assistant Principals, and a school-funded teacher position to strengthen wellbeing practices. The dedicated staff consists of early career and long-serving teachers and support staff.
The school has actively increased its learning around data-informed practice improving readnig through carefully considered evidence-based strategies. The staff embraced the opportunity to learn and implement the Quality Teaching Framework and Rounds in partnership with the Department and the University of Newcastle and continue to work collaboratively to develop excellence in classroom practice. Their preparation for External Validation later this year has drawn on this work.
West Wyalong Public School works closely with the local high school in an authentic middle school learning and transition program for Stage 3 students. The school supports students with learning, sporting and creative and performing arts opportunities. The school has an active P&C who partner with the school and the town has several community ventures to support students.
