Tregear Public School is located in Western Sydney within the Mount Druitt Network and has a student enrolment of 315. Our school has 3 support classes offering provision for students with Mild and Moderate Intellectual disabilities and Emotional and Behaviour disorders. 32% of our students identify as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 24% of students have a language background other than English. Our rate of beginning teaching staff is high in comparison to other schools. Almost 50% of our staff are within their first 5 years of teaching. Intervention programs within the school are supported by additional flexible equity funding to ensure all stages receive intervention 3 to 5 days per week. The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction position is a leadership role dedicated to ensuring that literacy and numeracy knowledge and skills are embedded in curriculum and assessment; high quality teaching practices are enhanced; and the capabilities of middle leaders are strengthened in literacy and numeracy instruction. It shares the broader educational imperatives of the Assistant Principal position but with an explicit focus on the leadership of effective, evidence-based literacy and numeracy teaching and assessment practices for improved student learning outcomes across the curriculum.
The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction provides high support and guidance to enhance teacher growth and development in literacy and numeracy and strengthens schoolwide instructional capabilities across the curriculum for middle and senior leaders.
