Thornton Public school has
an enrolment of 708 students, including 10% ATSI students. The school is
located on Wonnarua country near Maitland the gateway to the Hunter Valley and services a rapidly
growing community. Our vision reflects a whole-school commitment to providing
a happy, secure learning environment for our students. The school has increased
funding through RAM in the areas of socio-economic and Aboriginal background.
We have a highly professional, cohesive and dynamic staff that are dedicated to
providing high quality educational programs and increasing student engagement.
School priorities include literacy and numeracy, engagement and strengthening
community partnerships. Through our whole school PBL focus we aim to promote a
positive and engaging learning environment for our students. The school is
committed to EAFS and L3 and this year we introduced 'Quicksmart' literacy
and numeracy. All 3-6 classes are BYOD and future focused learning is a
priority. Outstanding and successful, environmental education, sporting,
cultural and creative arts programs are a feature of Thornton PS.
