The Structure of the workshop:
Our show:
Students will get to watch a 15 minute, award winning, traditional performance of Commedia dell'Arte. This show will introduce students to the classic stock characters of Commedia in a whirlwind of Italian renaissance hilarity. Stick fighting, song and dance, slapstick and mask work are just some of the things used to bring this ancient story to life.
Q&A:
Our teachers are all experts in Commedia and physical comedy having collective experience training abroad as well as producing and touring traditional Commedia in all its forms. This short Q&A is a chance for students to ask our ensemble any questions they have about Commedia.
The Masterclass’s:
In our Masterclass’s students will have a choice of learning how to play the servants, the masters or the lovers and will be taught some lazzi (comic action) associated with them. Students will be introduced to mask technique and prop handling as well as physical comedy, stage combat, stick fighting, acrobatics and structured improvisation. At the end of the masterclass students will perform for their peers in short improvisations using all they skills they have learned.
